Composés en Novembre 2020 pendant la pandémie de Covid 19 les 5 morceaux de The Implosion of Everything that Matters dégagent des émotions contradictoires. À l'image de Truth Philters où le groupe français joue une musique de film d'horreur torpillée par des moments pop et rock, les compositions sont lumineuses et apaisées, intimistes et parfois angoissantes.
Ce EP (à peine plus de 30 minutes) est sans guitares. Cette absence donne un ton alors que l'album dégage, en partie, une ambiance metal. On sent ici un sens de l'exploration tout en restant dans le domaine connu des musiques amplifiées actuelles (on pourra parfois penser au travail de Radiohead). Une certaine mélancolie unifie le tout. On ne sait jamais ce qu'il va se passer... une nappe de synthé ? Un "scream" façon "nu-metal" ? un blast de batterie ou une rythmique inattendue ? Ah tiens un saxophone.
Et puis il y a une chose qui ne trompe pas : une fois le dernier titre passé on a envie que cela continue. C'est un peu comme quand vous êtes dans un demi-sommeil et qu'il faut se lever alors que le lit est bien douillet. Cela tombe bien Nord a enregistré le EP Monsters en 2015, et deux LP And Now There's Only A River Left Behind (2018) et The Only Way To Reach The Surface (2020)... J'ai du retard à rattraper.

Composed in November 2020 during the Covid 19 pandemic, the 5 tracks of The Implosion of Everything that Matters exude some contradictory emotions. Like Truth Philters, where the French band plays horror-movie music torpedoed by pop and rock, the compositions are luminous and soothing, intimate and sometimes anguished.
This EP (30 minutes) is without guitars. Strange absence who sets the tone for the album, which has a distinctly metal feeling. There's a sense of exploration here sometimes reminiscent of Radiohead's work. A certain melancholy unifies the whole thing. You never know what's going to happen... a layer of synth? A nu-metal scream? A drum blast or an unexpected rhythm? Hey, there's a saxophone.
And there's one thing you can't go wrong : once you've past the last track, you want it to go on. It's a bit like when you're half asleep and you have to get up, even if the bed is nice and cosy. Nord recorded the Monsters EP in 2015, and two LPs And Now There's Only A River Left Behind (2018) and The Only Way To Reach The Surface (2020)... I knwon wath I'm gonna listen.
